The Board

Board 2021/2022

September 2020 – February 2021

Nina Hutten

Chairwoman

Hi everyone! You might already know me as I have been in the board already as a secretary, but for the coming half year I have decided to become the chair of this association.

During the years that I have been a member of SDF I have had a great time and I have loved to see the enthusiasm of our members which makes the association so great. I also really liked to see that our association keeps on growing each year. I really hope that we can keep up the good work together and that this coming half year will have lots of great classes, workshops and activities!

As the board our main focus for the coming time will be on changing the term Urban to Open Style, creating more social bonding, improving our teacher contact and creating an extra hour for longer technique courses. I am really looking forward to this half year!

Laura Mac Kenzie

Secretary

Hello Everyone! Here is a little introduction about me!

I am currently a Master’s student here at WUR pursuing my degree in Climate Studies! I hail from the sunny shores of California, USA and moved here with my husky, Niko (you can see us walking, running, and biking around campus often! Please feel free to say hi and pet him whenever you see us!). I am no stranger to the dance community or to leadership; I’ve been dancing and competing and creating almost all my life. While I lived and studied in California for my Bachelor’s, I performed in, competed with, and/or directed almost 10 teams! I brought that creative energy and experience to us here at the SDF and I hope I will be about to help this organisation grow and flourish during my time on the Board! Aside from my duties as the secretary, I am one of the team captains for the SDF’s performance and competitive team Wagalicious, and can also be found teaching some of our Wednesday classes! SDF has been such an amazing organisation to join and we have such potential for growth and development, it’s really exciting and I cannot wait to see what it becomes!

Mylène Duerinckx

Treasurer

Hi everyone!

My name is Mylène and I’m the treasurer at SDF.  I have been the treasurer since december already and I have had a lovely experience so far.

I started dancing in primary school and I tried many different styles. Eventually I fell in love with contemporary. I never danced at a high level or did any competitions. For me dancing is about enjoying myself and letting go of my perfectionist tendencies. I stopped dancing in high school, but when I came to Wageningen I wanted to pick up dancing again and I’m really glad I decided to join SDF. I rediscovered my love for dancing and I really like the open vibe at SDF.

I decided to join the board, because I wanted to do something for the association. The past few months as a treasurer I got to know my amazing fellow board members and help with organizing pretty much everything. I hope I can help to grow SDF and give everyone an opportunity to enjoy dancing.

Kim van der Elsken

Internal affairs

Hi! My name is Kim. I’m 21 years old, and I am in the position of the Internal Affairs for the rest of this dance year. This is my third year as a member of SDF and I’ve always danced with a lot of joy here! Before SDF, I’ve danced for a long time in a village where I used to live and I was also part of the “Show group” there. As a group we were often invited to dance on our heels at dinner shows and other small events. The main dance style I learned was jazz and showdance. During my minor in september I also followed a seperate heels course at the VU. Now, you can almost weekly find me at the regular open style classes at SDF!

I’m happy that I can be a part of the board with my position as Internal Affairs. I really like that I am in contact with a lot different people to arrange class teachers and workshops, and discuss things with commitee members and with the board members. I got to know a lot of really nice new people! Besides that, I like that I am in charge of the newsletter, where I can express my creativity.

Also, I think this position gave me a lot of new experiences and opportunities to learn and grow as a person. I feel more confident speaking with a lot of different people and to have more responsibilities. Overall I would recommend it to everyone!

Board 2021/2022

September 2021 – February 2022

Julia Vos

Chairwoman

Hi everyone! My boardyear was an very amazing and interesting experience for me. I have been in the board for one year and switched throughout the year from position. I have been internal affairs and chair. But next to ‘fixed positions’ everybody in the board does so much more than that! It could sometimes been a little challenging but looking back i am grateful for every challenge we got. During my boardyear I have been part of two totally different boards which both had a different dynamic. I learned so much from working together with these wonderful girls! We have all been really inventive during the Covid years, which i am really proud of. SDF is growing more and more and to see everybody having so much fun at the classes and activities makes me so happy. Still, I believe that SDF has so much potential, so I can’t wait for it to grow even more and wish the following boards much fun and luck with that! Thanks for the wonderful time.

Nina Hutten

Secretary

Hi everyone! I’m Nina and the past half year I have been the secretary of this association. I have been dancing for almost my entire life and when I moved to Wageningen I was looking for other people that share my passion and that is what I found in SDF. I have loved dancing with SDF for almost three years now and I really liked being part of the board as well. What I really loved was to see that we are growing so big as an association and that we have so many active members who are willing to teach, are part of a committee and/or bring lots of enthusiasm to our classes! I hope our association will keep on growing and with the members that we already have I am sure that the coming year will also be amazing!!

Catherine Adriaanse

Treasurer+Internal affairs

Hi everyone! I experienced being part of the board as a very motivating and nicely challenging journey. The past half year has been full of surprises which tested our inventiveness and creativity. It has made me think out of the box more and next to that made me more resilient to disappointments. We didn’t hold back and did as much as we could in the current covid-situation. This led to very innovative and fun ways of teaching classes and having activities. I really enjoyed the feeling of being a team, working together on our goals and helping each other achieving them. And the best part even was that SDF starts to feel like your baby more and more for which you want to do your very best. In conclusion, being part of the SDF board 2021 has been a super enjoyable and educational experience.

Board 2020/2021

February 2021 – September 2021

Laura Bosman

Chairwoman

Hi everyone! My name is Laura and I will be the chairwoman for the upcoming half year. Maybe you already know me because I was actually the secretary last year! I am currently in my first year of the Master Nutrition and Health. I started dancing when I was around 6 years old at a small dance school in my home town. I completely fell in love with it and continued to dance here for 10 more years. It was mainly jazz / modern / ballet, but we also practiced a little bit of urban styles every now and then. When I moved to Wageningen I really wanted to start dancing again and that is when I discovered Wagalicious. Wagalicious was just in it’s early years when I joined, but I really liked the concept of ‘dancing for students, by students.’ Over the past few years we had some amazing performances and trainings were always a lot of fun! Moving forward, with a group of people from Wagalicious we then proposed to become an official association for dance and that is when we founded The Student Dance Factory! I am very excited to be the chairwoman for the upcoming half year and I would like to share my passion for dance with new members!

Annika Crijns

Secretary

Hi everyone! My name is Annika Crijns and I am currently the secretary of the SDF! Next to my position with SDF I am in my first year of the Master International Development. I have always enjoyed dancing very much even though I have never been a pro at it. I was very excited about finding the Student Dance Factory and I like that they give you the opportunity to mostly enjoy yourself regardless of your experience and skills. I hope to provide this opportunity to others as well and that the dance classes will give you a lot of joy. I am very excited about the upcoming year with SDF and look forward to grow our association bigger but, also to create an association where members feel comfortable, share their passion for dance, and can forget about their busy student life for a bit!

Jikke Weijers

Treasurer

Hi, my name is Jikke and I will be the treasurer this year. During high school I took quite some classes in ballet and contemporary styles. When I started studying food technology in Wageningen, it quickly became clear I couldn’t do without dancing. Besides taking ballet classes, I joined The Student Dance Factory in their regular classes. I really like the vibe of dancing together and I’m enjoying all the new styles I learn here. I am really excited to be joining the board and to be able to help realize all the enthusiastic plans this coming year.

Julia Vos

Internal affairs

Hi! I am Julia and I will keep myself busy with the internal affairs of this lovely association. I started dancing since I could walk and when I was old enough, I started to go dance classes. I danced urban, street dance, hip hop and dancehall and even a mix of it all. I always had regular classes but also had a dance crew and even tried dancing in duo’s. With my dance crew we performed a lot and also did many competitions (even the national championship!!!!). In the last few years in my hometown association I started teaching classes and started to choreograph dances as well. I’m really passionate about dancing and when I quitted dancing at the association in my hometown to move to Wageningen, I was searching for a new place that feels like home. SDF is this for me and in my board year I really want to make this the same for everyone who’s already within the association and everyone who wants to join!

Tysha Vos

Internal affairs

Hi! My name is Tysha and I will fulfill the position of internal affairs at the Student Dance Factory the upcoming half year. I started dancing when I was around 5 years old with two of my best friends. I started with jazz dance and did this for many years. When I was around 14 years old I switched to streetdance and I really enjoyed this. A few years later I switched dance schools and got a place in the selection team. Unfortunately, this was only for a year since I started my study Nutrition and Health in Wageningen. Here I quit dancing for a few years even though I really wanted to continue. However, the dance schools were pretty expensive so I decided to stop. When I came across the Student Dance Factory I immediately was enthusiastic and decided to join. I am really happy that this association exists now so I can continue with my passion, not only by going to the dance classes but also as a member of the new board. I am looking forward to fulfill my function in the board and make this association even bigger!

Chairwoman

Hi! I am Marleen Tiemeier, and I will be the first chairwoman of The Student Dance Factory! I have been dancing since I was 9, starting with ballet. Later I switched to contemporary and really fell in love with dancing. I was part of an amazing selection group in Rotterdam, but I had to stop because of my study Food Technology in Wageningen. In Wageningen I immediately searched for a similar group. However not much was available. That’s why I helped starting this Association. I am looking forward to dance, teach, choreograph and getting this great association of the ground!

The first time I came here I was attracted by wagalicious performance, I wanted to dance with them, that is the only reason that I joined wagalicious dance crew. During the last year, our association SDF developed by our amazing dancers, so now we are looking forward to more dancers to shake together!

Amy Schouten

Secretary

Hello! My name is Amy Schouten and I will be the secretary of the Student Dance Factory. I started dancing since I was 3 years old with a little group of toddlers. However, from the years 6 until 11, I actually did a lot of other sports and lost dancing out of sight. When high school started I rediscovered dancing and started with streetdance which I really loved and added contemporary to my schedule when I was 15. When I started in Wageningen as a student I joined a dance school and also became familiar with the urban dance style. Since last year I became a member of the Wagalicious student dance crew and I really enjoyed every training we have so far and get inspired every single week. I am looking forward to sharing this passion of dancing with the new members of our association and to get inspired together!

Merel Daas

Internal affairs

Hello! My name is Merel, and I will fulfill the position of internal affairs at The Student Dance Factory. When I was eleven years old, I took my first dance class together with a few friends. We mostly had a lot of fun, but I also loved feeling the music in my body and couldn’t stop dancing anymore. I started with streetdance and eventually switched to all kinds of styles, like hip-hop, dancehall, contemporary and jazz. For a few years I also danced in a competitive dance crew and performed with them several times. When I moved to study Nutrition and Health in Wageningen, I wanted to continue dancing and joined a dance school here. After a few months, I also came across Wagalicious and immediately joined them. However, as a crew we noticed that a lot of students were searching for the same thing as us: a fun, affordable and advanced place to dance. This was the main reason why I helped starting this Association. I hope that we can fill this gap and share our passion for dance with as much people as possible!
